How to create privacy screen on a roofless raised patio?

small patio off back of house. No roof. Floor is concrete. 3 walls are brick planters that are 3 1/2 feet tall. 2 entry's to back yard with 2 steps on each side of patio between end of side walls and middle wall. Also, thinking about how to fill the planter in or cover it as I am tire of planting flowers every year.

"Walls". Build with 2x4, treated of course, with lattice between. Bury in your planter boxes put solar lights between them thwn fill the planter bov with river rock. Instead of lattice you could use tongue and groove and make chevron patterns plywood with windows of colored glass or stained glass.

Lattice is good, or I was think of decorative wrought iron. Something for eyes outside to focus on so they don't look inside. The mesh now is not assertive enough for that.

Use your planters to help with screening. Using 4 x4 posts (or even 1 1/2 PVC piping), make framed sections that will go into your planter box dirt. Imagine a large 4 x 4 Upside down U that has a cross piece midway down and the legs of the U down in the dirt at least 24 inches for stability. Use a rolled pvc or bamboo shade in the opening. they are available at Lowes, Home Depo and even Walmart. You can drop the screen when you want privacy or leave it open. I put the rolling PVC shades on a trellis that I have on my deck. If I was out sunbathing or just hanging out, I'd lower them so my neighbor didn't have a direct view to my deck. The shades lasted 3 years before I had to replace them with new one. Not only are they functional, but they are attractive.

A simple frame could be used to hang drop cloth curtains.

I like the curtain idea: they could be changed for the season or brought in for the Winter. They would also be a bit of protection from breezes while sitting there (with a book, maybe). Curtains would be much less permanent and easier to change.

These are becoming more popular as they are very low maintenance. I saw them on display at Lowes.
