Scandinavian Style Marimekko Easter Eggs

Every spring I love to decorate some eggs for my home. Last year I made some upcycled denim eggs (you can see here).
This year I thought I would go for something a bit more stylish and trendy. I love Scandinavian and Nordic designs so I gave my eggs a Marimekko makeover.
For those of you who don't know, Marimekko is a famous Finnish textile design brand that has been going since the 1950's and has shops all over the world selling clothes and housewares.
I used real eggs to decorate, however you can use craft eggs. If using real eggs you will need to blow the eggs first. This involves making 2 holes one at each end of the egg and then using a straw to blow out the contents.

)I live in the UK where most of our shop bought eggs are brown so I had to paint my white. However, you may live somewhere where you can buy white eggs.
To decorate the eggs I used Marimekko paper napkins in KAINO design and Mod Podge.
eBay is a good place to find Marimekko paper napkins, there are lots of different designs.
The paper napkins are 3 ply. You only need the top ply. So separate this from the rest of the napkin.
Cut out flowers, leaves, and shapes from the napkin.
Using the Mod podge stick down these pieces of napkins onto the egg. I find it helpful to use a foam brush to press the napkin onto the surface.
Carry on until the whole egg is covered. You can cut out small pieces to cover up any small gaps.
Once your egg is covered you will want to give them a protective varnish. I used 2 coats of a 50/50 mod podge/water combination for this.
Top tip I find it handy to rest the eggs on a wire tray whilst working on them.
I really had fun making these Marimekko eggs. I will be making more as I have a whole stack of Marimekko napkins in my cupboard. Every time I visit a Marimekko store I seem to buy a pack of napkins.
