What can I use to insulate a big chest freezer?

The insulation came out of the lid of my extra large chest freezer. I would rather fix it than buy a new one. Right now I have 2 old quilts thrown over the top, but as soon as the weather warms up that wont be enough. The inside lid is broken. Is there a pad or material I can use on top to provide good insulation so the food will stay frozen? The motor works fine. Thanks for any ideas!!

You can purchase expanding foam, the kind used to insulate around windows. I would fill the lid with that, then trim it back.
You can get closed cell foam sheets at the lumber yard that come in 1/2, 3/8/ and 1 ' thicknesses. Cut them to size and glue them to the inside of the freezer lid.
If you have a empty hull. You can first add roll out insulation then ,a sheet of foam preformed insulation over that and a sheet of at least 1/4" plywood. Paint the plywood with a good outdoors paint to seal it. Attache all to the lid by drilling holes through the lid and all the materials. Then use round top box neck bolts wth washers and nuts.
Keep your eye open for used ones. Sometimes these are really inexpensive at Estate Sales - $25.00 and auctions. Don't put too much money into it.
Is the top to the freezer, even though the insulation came out, usable at all?
