MY MOTHER HAS AN OLD RED BRICK FIREPLACE. I WOULD LIKE TO UP DATE THE COLOR SO THE ROOM DOESN'T LOOK SO DARK. I WOULD STILL LIKE TO SEE THE TEXTURE OF THE BRICK THOUGH. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

You can do a process of white washing. Mixing paint with water, apply with a sponge, let dry, add 2-4 more coats depending on the amount of coverage you want.

Painting will ruin it. Will hurt the resale value of the home. Vacuum and Scrub it with TSP. Decorate it with lighter colored accents.
