Decorating around a large flatscreen tv?

In my opinion less is more. Especially around the tv. You don’t want to distract the eye away. Keep it simple and you will have less to worry about and less to dust.

Actually the spaces around the TV are good. It looks so busy with the painted stone wall, all the little things around the TV, on the wall and on the shelves below. Choose a few large pieces, (maybe a long large boat shaped bowl or rectangular box in front of the TV to hold the clutter) and if you want to do the work, paint the shelving unit the darkest grey/brown in the wall. Put frosted paper over the glass on the shelving doors. Lighten, brighten, and declutter - you'd be surprised at how nice it will look and that spacing you are concerned about won't matter.

Agree, less is more.The TV and console are large, so lots of little stuff around it only make it look messy. Stick to a couple large things on the sides, andd not too close to the TV. Maybe a short, but long box or tray on the console in front.

Brighten the console. And eliminate all the little things.

For a start I’d get some foamcore from the dollar store and cut to fit the back of each shelf. Paint a color of a stone in your wall. (Get one of those little sample jars Sherwin Williams sells). You’d also be able to see the decorative items you have In the cabinets. I would eliminate the clock and hang the second mask on the other side of the tv even with the other.

Clear off console. If you need the meds there, get a couple of complementary baskets and put them on a shelf so they’re easily accessible but attractively housed. Or two matching tallish baskets to hold the meds which would be the only things on console. If a clock is important, get a larger and interesting one and hang in the center over tv.

Your vase that’s holding tubes could look great with some tall faux grass in it and help balance the tv.

I agree, declutter the console table, and if you can't clean up all the stuff inside so it looks neat, I would put some privacy film on the glass doors. And by all means paint the faux stone wall a solid. The monster TV is enough for that wall kinda like your own portal into the next world.

I know you said that hubby won't move the tv, but since you are painting anyway, I'd raise the tv some. It's so low you may as well have just kept it on the stand. Actually, at first, I thought it was on a stand instead of being hung on the wall. Moving the tv up some, would help make the wall look more balanced.

I too thought the TV was on a stand on top of the console. If you were aiming for a more contemporary look wall-mounted TV, it is way too low.
