I’ve been dying to make my own crystals for awhile now and I'm finally doing it! I love crystals, I used to carry them around in my purse, I even have one in my car, I believe in their mystical powers and they are oh so pretty. This recipe uses Borax which you can find in the laundry aisle. Let's dig in

Fill the pot with water
Twist pipe cleaner into a small ball, try not to leave any big gaps
Attached string to the scrunched up pipe cleaner
Attach pipe cleaner on string to the wooden stick
Add 2 cups Borax to boiling water
Stir until dissolved
Add food coloring to the borax water
Place pipe cleaner attached to string and stick in colored borax water
Make sure pipe cleaner does not touch the bottom or sides of pan
Let sit overnight
Remove from pan and dry with paper towel

If I leave the pipe cleaner in the borax water will I make a larger crystal by leaving it in the water for a longer time? Also too, how to you get the flat bottoms on them to make them sit on a shelf without falling over????

    Beautiful job!!!!

What fun! I had forgotten how fun making rock crystals can be. When I was a child my mom helped us kids make Christmas ornaments by shaping pipe cleaners into stars, attaching a string, pouring the borax mixture into paper cups and suspending the stars in the solution overnight. We made them in different colors and they were really quite pretty.
