If you do DIY: Try to tear off the wallpaper while it's dry first. The more you can get off when it's dry--the better. If it's tough to remove-or it leaves behind a paper like residue-buy a scoring tool from WalMart. Score the paper in circular motions and wet it down with a solution of 1 cup fabric softener in 2 gallons of water, let it sit about 10 minutes and start peeling it away. You will have to wet and peel and scrape with a flat metal spatula in small sections. Make sure you remove any thin paperlike residue under the pretty wallpaper top. It can be a long slow tedious process but it can be done. If you are going to wallpaper again make sure you prep your walls the right way so thatnext time the wallpaper comes off easier. Clean you walls--removing all the excess glue--this takes washing several times with more fabric softener and water, and hot water with Dawn dish soap. Repaint in a satin or eggshell finish. Size your walls with a sizer if you are going to wall paper again.
