Should baseboard be painted before installing?

    I didn't think so but found out it should be. Am in the middle of replacing the baseboards in my entry hall so am going through this myself.

    Yes, paint the baseboards before installing. But, keep the paint nearby when you're done. After installing the baseboards, you may want to fill, and paint over finishing nails. Best of luck to you.

    It is much easier if you do. Then you only have to touch up with the paint.

    Yes, definitely if you have the option. Then you'd only have to touch up after filling and touching up where the finishing nails have been seated.

    For me, it's a whole lot easier to paint baseboard before installing. If you scratch it up at all during the install, just touchup a little. It beats putting something in back of it to protect the walls and something under it to protect the floor.

    It's easier this way. Any touch ups after you nail it in place is all you would need.
