Would it devalue my fireplace to paint it out in white? It is currently gray brick.
We have built-ins on either side of our gray brick fireplace, and I would love to paint the fireplace out in white. However, my husband feels it would be a bad idea.
what is the material of the frame
I’ve used Rub n buff on picture frames and pewter candlesticks. It’s a waxy rub on that worked well for my needs. It can lighten or darken.
Have a look at the website possible color options, reviews Q&A to to see if it’s a product you might wish to consider.

Use a wax or a water based glaze. Wax comes in several colors. Try Miss Mustard products, easy to use and you can get on Amazon. Takes but a moment. I have a mirror that had a grey antique frame, but you couldn't see the detail. I used a black glaze and it turned out perfect. Wipe on, wipe off. Have fun.
Hi Eileen,
Are you saying that the mirror itself is a lighter gray or is it the frame? If it's the frame, you can paint it or use a dark silver wax. If it's the mirror itself, click on the link below to see what is involved. This is not exactly what you want (around the edge) so you'd have to adapt it to your project. Wishing you the best.https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/how-to-create-a-4-127227
I would prime it first, then paint the color that you wanted, seal with a clear non-yellowing finish
Look for the old-fashioned kind of shoe polish that comes in a tin - it's wax based and you can apply as much or as little as you want and buff with a cloth to achieve the look you want. Costs less than specialty products.
