Painted Concrete Floors - Floor Paint - Videos and Tutorials

Painting a concrete floor to create the look of a rug, carpet, floorboards or granite by simply painting is fairly straight forward - even if a little messy. And changing the look of your concrete floor is not particularly expensive; use concrete floor paint or if you prefer a granite look use an etching solution.
From ripping up your carpets, choosing paint, designs or stencils, here are videos and tips on how you can get a great looking concrete floor - including...
Concrete Floor Preparation
1. If you are doing it yourself, first, remove old carpets or vinyl to reveal the state of your floor. You’ll be surprised at how much dirt is under your carpets – years of dust, allergens and dirt.
2. Remove nails slowly with a crowbar or nail puller so you don’t remove chunks of concrete.
3. Fill holes with concrete patch or leave them. I don’t mind holes, but it depends on the look you want to create; silky smooth, rustic or industrial.
4. Vacuum or sweep, again.
5. Mop your floor with a cleanser to remove residue, dirt, and loose particles.
6. Decide whether your concrete floors need a hydrochloric acid solution, diluted with 4 parts water to remove stubborn residues of carpet glue or dirt. Use a solution like Clean-N-Etch 64 oz. cleaning solution or Rust-Oleum 238475 EPOXYShield Concrete Etch. Great to prepare your floors and no fumes or odor. Don’t forget to use protective eye wear and gloves and make sure the room is ventilated.
7. If your floor is in very poor condition buy a more powerful cleaner and use a special floor cleaner/buffer to remove additional layers of residue. These are often big machines.
It doesn't stop there.. read more on the blog.
Use an etching solution and stain to transform your floors completely. Etching solution reacts with the concrete to create patterns. Dark stain produces a stone look.

This look is perfect for wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms; these painted rugs really stand out, as a contrast, take less time and cost less than an entire floor.
Checkerboard is always a great look and works well with concrete. Always use paint specifically for concrete.

Love this idea, and I am going to pick up supplies today so I can begin working on an ugly concrete 'patio' I have outside my front door. Thank you for the ideas and instructions.
