I water my snake plant once a month. I keep track by watering on the 1st of the month. I place the pot it in the sink (and it is huge) and water until the water comes out the bottom. I then let it sit for 30 minutes or so to drain out completely. I keep the pot in a fancy pot, back in my family room. You do NOT want it t sit in any water at all. So draining is important. I have had mine several years. It seems to like it this way...
Yes it is over watered, they really don't like a lot of water.I have a big one and some small ones threw out the house and the smaller ones I water just enough to moisted the soil once a week, they dry out quicker, the bigger one water until water comes out the bottom, every week when hotter, colder once a month.
Some of my houseplants that need ordinary watering (unlike ferns) I lift the pot and if it is light weight, I water it. Depends on the sunlight your plant gets, how hot it is in the house, but find weight of the pot tells me when to water.
