Do I chose and paint first, or put my new flooring in first?

paint before floor
I think painting first is a better idea because you don't want to spill on the new flooring (or worse, cause scratches from ladders, etc.) Chances are the floor will be there much longer and cost more to fix/replace.
Paint first. I have a tendency to work from top down. You do not want to scratch up your new floors or get paint on them. Easier to touch up paint if needed.
Paint first! We just went through this ourselves. You can always take a sample piece of carpet with you when you pick out your paint, so you can match it up. We used the burned pine flooring in our house and love it! I burned each piece with a torch, and my husband layed it. But we did our floors last.
We've always done the walls first. Otherwise you are going to have to be very careful to protect the floors. I often see them doing it the other way around on remodeling shows, when they use special paper to protect the floors, but, my preference is the painting first.
Flooring first or you'll have to do a lot of touch ups to the walls. If paint drips on new flooring just wipe up right away with a damp cloth.
Paint first.
Put in your flooring first...and then paint. Paint is easier to match than flooring is.
Your husband is right!!!!!
I would paint first, less worry of getting it on the new floors.
Paint first. Then flooring. I have done this in many houses we've renovated. Go to the paint store and get a bunch of color cards that you like. Bring them home and put them next to everything that will be next to the paint. Flooring, cabinets, countertop, backsplash, appliances, window coverings, furniture, rugs, etc. Look at them at different times of day and different kinds of weather. Eliminate them until you have one.
Put the flooring in last. That way you don't have to protect it while doing the other renovations.
Painting first will mean you don't have to protect the flooring, but having all surfaces in place will give you a truer light to select your paint color..
Hey Kellie...have fun and show us the final result 😀
