I don't know how to keep frost off, but I do recommend buying rubber or textured treads to place on the painted steps for traction.

paint them again using no slip paint. There is sand in it to prevent falls. I am a CNA and suggest this to all of my elderly patients families for their homes.

If you buy treads--make sure you attach them so they don't slip out from under your feet.

Sherwin Williams makes a paint called Deck and Dock. For a few dollars, they also sell a small bag of crushed nut shell hulls. These absorb the paint unlike sand of which it will eventually rub off. The paint comes in many colors and has a long durability. I would suggest prepping the steps to paint. Do one coat Nd then take a small, portion of paint and mix some crushed hulls into it. It needs to be stirred often. Paint, dry, voila!

Thanks Nancy, I have the strips and sanded paint on them. I will try the nut shells. I have not heard of this before.

There are strips that can be applied to steps for this purpose. They are like sandpaper. These can be purchased on the internet, hardware stores and home depot. Some are precut, some come in a strip and you cut and apply.

I have the strips and sanded paint on them but the frost is my problem.
