We tried everything with ants and then an old timer told us of the answer. We figured it was worth a try, but had little faith it would work. However, we found it DOES work. The answer is cornmeal. Yes, it kills them. It is inexpensive, safe for children, pets and the environment, and it WORKS. They cannot digest it and it kills them. We use Jiffy because it is sweet. When we get a new mound in our yard or planter boxes, we use about 1/4 to 1/5 of a box of Jiffy all over where we see ants. In 2 or 3 days they are gone. If we see a few ants after all the cornmeal is gone we give it a second application. This works for every kind of ant. Just put it directly on the mound or where you see a trail of them. Give them plenty and they will be gone for good!

The advice from an exterminator once is that when you begin to see ants, the first ones you see are the "scouts." If they are eliminated, others lose their trail and will not continue to come in. I saw ants, cleaned off the counter tops and sprayed leaving the counter covered overnight in a glass cleaner.

Someone chided me for using a chemical because of kids.., but I don't have kids, so no one could get hurt.

For other bugs, I am using Borax and honey. I used the top to a throw away container and poured a circle at the edge about half an inch wide. Then poured honey in the center. No longer see any bugs!

Grind some chalk (white) and make it into a powder. Put it in your cabinets, the ants will not cross the chalk. You don't say where the ants are coming in from.

YOU can also use traditional ant remedies. Put them in a small box. Cut a few openings so the ants can get to the bait. . Seal the box with tape, leaving the holes free. Place up where your pets cannot get to it, but the ants can.

Spread Corn Meal on floor along cabinets. It also works outside.

A mix of Borax powder, water and a little sugar helps. Just place in small containers. The ants take it back to their nest.
