Porch light - LED - sensor

We have a typical ball porch light. We would like to replace it with a LED that fits into the existing electrical box, but we need it to have a motion sensor also. Anyone know of a fixture that would work? It is a front porch, so it needs to look nice.

Go to your local home improvement stores and check out their inventory, there are a lot of motion sensor lights out now, take a picture of the box it will need to fit and the knowledgeable staff will be able to help you with what will fit that you like.

      Thanks for your thoughts.

We have been there, and nothing will work like we want it to.

      Thanks

Hi there, most lights typically fit the round electrical box.

I should have been more specific. We need the whole LED light to fit INSIDE the box.

      Thanks

There are sensors that screw into the fixture and you screw the bulb into the sensor. Your ball cover may not be big enough to accomodate this. How about a new cover? or you can have installed a sensor on the wall very near the fixture (perhaps you can do this yourself?) Our porch fixture covere is open at the bottom so we had no problem using the screw-in sensor. Good luck.

I have seen those sensors. We may have to replace our fixture and try one of those.

Keep in mind that motion sensor light fixtures must be positioned correctly to function properly (light goes on) when there is movement within a very specific range of space. It is sometimes difficult to install them exactly at the angle that you need it to serve the purpose. There is less choice in light fixture styles that have motion sensor light capacity, as compared with the non motion sensor greater variety of styles.

Motion sensor lights often tend to be activated by wind. You may not want it to be going on and off frequently during windy periods. Do not pay for the dawn-to-dusk feature. This doesn't work properly during cloudy, rainy, or stormy weather and is a nuisance to have to keep resetting.

I would suggest that you purchase an LED light fixture/standard light fixture with LED light bulbs, then have it on a timer. There are many different choices available in timer switches, all that simply replace the standard on/off wall switch. Here are two examples.
