Can you eat green onions that have sprouted for yrs in same spot?

Vegetables that regrow from remains of previous crop are call volunteers and are the same as the original plant. Just be sure that no chemicals which are harmful to humans have been applied to the soil. You can regrow green onions by cutting off the green top (i.e., for your salad, etc) placing the rooted end in a glass of water that covers the root. Keeping the root covered with water, place the glass in a sunny but not scorching location (like a window sill) and the tops will regrow. Enjoy!

I woud taste one, before I would pick the crop. I think they would still be edible, you have to decide. If not plant something like Rosemary, it will become a bush & is fragrant, you can also take cutting & plant more if you wish, Mint is something that is also fragrant and is edible no matter how many years it has grown in the same spot, you can also get Organic Mint, Spearmint, Peppermint, Chocolate Mint & Lemon Balm Mint is the most recognized & you can use them in salads, teas & drinks.

Yes, they are.

As long as they were never sprayed with harmful chemicals, yes edible. I have pots of them all over the place and just cut off the tops to use and leave the roots to regrow.

If they are still growing into normal onions, and you haven’t done anything toxic to them, you just have a good onion bed. At one place we lived, we had a perrienial strawberry patch. Sometimes, nature is just good to you. ☺️
