q what to use on stone to make patch ups blend with stone
We have this fire pit that was losing the original seal. It was chipping off and then crevices formed. We patched up with travertine repair kit. Now we don’t know how to get the colors to blend better. Anyone know anything about stone?
Thanks tons!

Hello Stephanie, I know there is a mortar dye that can be used on the mortar between bricks to match the rest of the mortar, so I can't help but wonder, since mortar comes in several different colors, if perhaps it can also be used to dye the stone patch, even if it were like a heavyily mottled type of blending so it looks natural. Call or go to your local hardware store or home improvement center and talk to the manager in charge about what you need. Take your photo with you so he can see it, and he will be able to help you or get you to the help that you need. Good luck Stephanie, and thank you for asking Hometalk for answers :)

Why did you use travertine patch, is that white portland cement? I would have just used a concrete gray that would have matched better. You can dampen the whole surround, then mix some concrete a little watery with white glue, and paint it on with an old brush. If its more beige, I would add a little tint to the white mix you have and paint the whole thing to match....

Hi Stephanie, You should paint the entire surface with paint and primer made for concrete. Best of luck to you.

I believe they make a concrete stain. You could just stain the whole piece.
