When I tackled my very first project in this same room three years ago…. I never imagined I would be here again painting the queen size guest room bed for this same little girl! I’ve been involved in the crib-to-twin transition….and now the twin to queen! The bed is gorgeous….and was stunning in the guest room. However, once they moved it into Kinsley’s light and bright room….it became dark and completely out of place! This is where I come in…..WITH my paint….because PAINT cures many design issues!!!
You’ll notice how the dark bed looks harsh and competes with the wood wall design (yes, that is one of my wood plank walls. Sign up for my emails and never miss any of my projects). As you see the newly painted light color looks much softer, actually accenting the wall board colors.
To cover over the dark iron, I painted two solid coats of Cobblestone paint and then did a light wash of Cashmere over the carved areas to bring out the details. I used a True Applicator Sponge and the stipple technique which will give you the quickest yet best coverage on smooth surfaces. Sponges are also great for getting paint in all the crevices of decorative iron.
Here's another picture showing how heavy the dark color looks against the peach and cream of the dresser. Each color accents the other.
See how well the "wash" of Cashmere brought out the details of the headboard? I love the washed gray color against the soft blush pink of the rustic wall boards.
The finished bed blends in nicely with the bright, airy room colors. For a detailed video showing you how to paint an iron bed, click the blog link below. Be sure to follow me on Facebook to keep update on with all my projects.

I recently painted my wrought iron bed as well and I used the all in one paint as well and it worked great! I loved using the sponge also! I may try adding some another color for more dimension as well! I used gilding wax to bring out the details on my bed after using the Manor House white color.
