If it is stained--you would have to prime with a primer before you paint. I would use an enamel paint that is made for doors and trim. If wears better than wall paint and chalk paint.
Depends on what it is made out of, best to ask the person at the paint counter
If the doors are hollow core (not solid wood), use wood glue and clamps to fix any loose edges and corners. Be sure to tape off the hinges and all the handles, knobs and latches before painting. After the paint is dry, buff or polish the hardware, or paint the hardware, taping off the wood around it. Best wishes on your “new” closet doors. ☺️
