I have chickens in TN - I keep them in a large pen at night and let them free range during the day. When I plant flowers and veggies - they tear up the garden, so I have to keep them out with fencing.

I have free range chickens as well. The only way that has worked for me is keeping separated from the garden until the starts are bigger. I have an area that is open to a smaller section of yard. That way I can have my garden and they can still free range. A few times a month I let them run the whole yard. That helps keep any grass hoppers or other bugs out of the garden. Other than that bird netting on plants that you don't want them in works.

YES!!! Pen up te chickens! I have had chickens for 20 years and cannot keep them out of my flower beds without building as good a fence as I have for their yard. My chicken yard is made from 10 x 20 dog kennel panels.

this is difficult, I used tall borders between flower beds so when they sifted the mulch it didn't fly into the grass. I still had to move the mulch around. I contained mine to the east side of my house And started a compost pile inside the containment. They helped themselves to the kitchen scraps and scattered everything. Saved me the the trouble of turning It, but I still had to rake it back in a pile. I threw out chia seeds occasionally so they had their own sprouts. I gave them live crickets once in a while too. Thy don’t need to have full range till after the growing season.
