Want all wood floors. Replace current or add new and stain to match?
Love the 5" handscraped wood flooring and would like to replace all carpet with wood. We have 2" wood floors in dining/entry. Replace all flooring w/5" or match 2" and have handscraped and stained?

Your present wood floor is probably a 2 1/4 " wood floor. If it is solid hardwood (possibly oak or maple) it is a timeless floor. Such floors have been around for over 100 years and are in some very elegant to ordinary homes. They continue to be made, and if you ever need to patch the flooring or add to it, it is easily done. They also can be refinished many times - which is why they can last over a hundred years.
Engineered wood flooring may be able to be refinished once or twice depending on the size of the wear layer. Laminate and LVP "faux" wood have a limited life and will need to be replaced at some point.
If the 5" is not a solid wood, it will have a limited life. It also will not be able to be matched in as little as 2 years as the styles are constantly changing and the flooring will be discontinued. If it is solid wood, when it comes time to be refinished, you will lose the hand scraped look. Talk all of this over with a flooring specialist.
I've noted that the guys on This Old House always try to save and work with older solid wood floors, while some of the HGTV shows rip them out and put in an inferior product - with a limited life - trendy rather than timeless. This is often because they are pulling down walls and don't want to take the trouble to repair the floors.
