Best way to protect new grass from weeds and vines?

Question

I moved to a rural area where previous owners planted so much that I’m trying to identify weed from herb. Unfortunately, they were overgrown and creeping all over the yard with vines. I planted a new section of grass and I don’t want it contaminated with this growth. How can I control my older grass and protect my new grass?

Technically you can't. Nature will always win. The best you can do is dig them up the minute you spot a weed or something that does not belong. Any breeze, birds and animals spread stuff like crazy. All you can do is stay on top of it.

After your lawn is established, many people use Preen products and claim they are successful. I will not use them so unable to attest to their effectiveness.
