Has anyone increased the size of their table?

I have a glass topped table 60" round and is only good for 6 people. Is there a way to create a top to fit over that glass and extending out to accommodate up to 10 people. Thanks

  • Sure, you can have a piece of wood cut to lay on top.

You could have another sheet of glass cut to fit, but plexiglass would be lighter in weight. There is so much wasted space with a round table, but they are gorgeous when decorated. Would you consider a second round table in the 6-person size? Then you would have seating for 12. You can buy these that are foldable for storage when you don’t need the table. They are not covered with glass, but you could add a glass top. Or build your own if you wish. Less space in the center than on a larger table, but more seating. And tablecloths would make the two tables almost equal. Best wishes on your choice. ☺️

If you could expand the table by only a foot all around, you would have a 7' table, impossible to reach the center of the table without use of a crane.

Unless you have an emotional attachment to this table, I recommend taking a look at a local used furniture store, like Habitat, for a table that is expandable by use of pieces of wood, or "leaves" that insert into the table to make it larger to accommodate more guests. When not needed the boards come out and the table is smaller to use up less of the room.

I absolutely love this table so wouldn't consider getting rid of it but I appreciate all your suggestions - you make very good points. Thank you all for your advice.
