Use Citristrip to remove the stain, clean,sand if necessary ,prime allow to dry, and paint two lights coats allowing to dry in between again, then seal with a non yellowing finish
Sand lightly, then prime. After priming, I used a glossy enamel latex. Once cured, it will be durable.
Use a power sander to get the stain off and then paint and prime. I recommend using a paint & primer in one, if you can't get all the stain off.
