We have a very old, water and calcium stained shower door. I’ve tried with lemon and baking soda, letting it sit and wiping it. Didn’t work. I’ve run out of ideas. Can anyone help?

  • Hopefully, if it's glass, it isn't etched. Try mixing vinegar and Dawn dish soap 50/50 in a spray bottle. Spray it on and give it time to work. You will probably have to scrub with a plastic scrubbie.

Kaboom. I tried EVERYTHING including straight bleach. A friend told me about KABOOM. It works wonders.

My sister in law swears by the Bar Keepers Friend brand, they sell it at Bed Bath & Beyond.

  • Have you tried CLR or vinegar yet? May take several applications.

Get some Easy Off Fume Free Oven Cleaner in the blue can, open a window and put a fan in to blow out the fumes or run you ceiling fan. Spray well, let sit awhile and use a plastic scrubbie to scrub off the crud. I wear a mask and kitchen rubber gloves.

clr for bathrooms. Vinager maybe, I’ve soaked paper toweling in clr and stuck it on the shower door. Let sit for a bit and check it.

clr for the bath....it may take a once a day srub, but it will get it done. Lime a way is a bit harsher, test that one in a none seen area.

The Works tub and tile , ( use a mask or open window it's very strong smelling )

or Lime a Way if your local stores carry these products . both work well.

My husband uses Lime a Way on his fiberglass Ranger Bass boat works really well takes the scum off fast. I also fond a very good home made cleaner

1 cup Oxy clean , 1 cup Bleach ,1 cup white vinegar in 1 gal hot water. Use rubber cloves . I have uses this in my carpet cleaner takes out any bad oder s. increase the water. you can make a paste of it also using smaller amounts of each , Always spot check before using on fabrics .

If it’s been on there a while , bar keepers friend is great. Or soft scrub. Get a squeegee and do the door every time you are done showering.

"The Works", that you can buy in any "Dollar Tree" store, WILL clean your shower door, like New!! This is an amazing product!! It will clean your tub or shower, also! ( I came upon it, by accident--- and now, I ALWAYS have it in my home bathrooms!). Good Luck!

And then, when your glass is squeaky clean, purchase a glass squeegee and hook it inside the shower area with a suction cup, and instruct your family (probably just you, if your family is anything like mine) to squeegee the glass after each shower. You probably will not have a residue buildup again.

I have tried almost everything mentioned here and nothing works. I was told when I had the new shower doors installed to wash and dry them and coat them with car (turtle) wax. It stops the mineral buildup. It would have to be re-aplied every so often but I am now sorry I ignored the advice. I am about ready to throw them out and start all over. They always look dirty even after scrubbing them.

I was going to try the new Wet and Forget shower cleaner advertised on here. Like you nothing works for me either.

Try mixing 2 cups of white vinegar with 1/2 cup of corn starch in a large spray bottle. Add 1/2 cup of Dawn detergent and swirl around to mix. Let sit and make sure all the corn starch is blended. Spray on to doors and let sit as long as possible...an hour or longer. Use a micro fiber clothe and scrub. Rinse well and repeat in areas if needed. If you are successful, let the glass dry, then coat with a very scant amount of lemon oil on a cloth. If all else fails, remove the doors, hang s rod and put up a shower curtain!

We lived in an area with a lot of iron in our well water. I tried CLR for cleaning lime & hard water stains -with a little scrubbing & 2 applications, it worked well. Then I let it dry for 24 hrs & applied car Turtle Wax. We’ve since moved & I tried a trick for these shower doors from Pinterest - low cost white toothpaste 2 or 3 times/week. Smear on, wipe off, then rinse well. I’ve also found that using a window squeegee after every shower helps a lot. All in all, I prefer a pretty shower curtain over glass doors. I‘m convinced they are designed by men as “make-work projects for women”. LOL.
