What is the trick to removing the inner membrane from a raw egg shell?

I want to be able to pulverize the shells (lime) to be used in my garden soil.

    Egg shells are calcium. You will need to ADD the lime.

    To pulverise the shells, all you need to do is let them dry a couple days & they will crumble for you.

    lime is also calcium. just in a different form. egg shells are also calcium. both work. I'm allergic to eggs, I use the garden lime.

    Hi, I have found the easiest way to remove the membrane from raw egg shells is to drop them in a small container of warm soapy water while doing meal/baking prep. Then when cleaning up, after whatever is in the oven, rinse the shells under running water, rubbing inside to make sure membrane has dissolved and set aside to dry.       This is basically what I am doing now, but, without the addition of soap. I will give it a try. What I do know is that you cannot pulverize the shell with the membrane intact - crush it -yes. but, pulverize it-no! Thanks, I will add some dish soap.

    garden lime is ground up limestone, which is very high in calcium. the little green fruits don't have the calcium in them.

    Don't bother doing that. It is not necessary to remove the membrane. Just let your egg shell dry after emptying the egg from it then crush it.
  • Just let them completely dry, they will crush just fine. I sometimes place them in the oven after I have turned it off from using it.
