Most lumber stores carry tongue in groove paneling. I have done two rooms in my house and am working on the third. being real wood, its so much more beautiful than cutting plywood into strips and very reasonably priced. The wood is 3/8 inch thick by 8 feet long. Just stagger your ends so there are no verticle lines. It goes up simply with a brad nailer. In the living room I used cedar on one wall..its a soft grey color...so beautiful. In my kitchen i used knotty pine. with two accent walls that are faux stucco. In both cases I left the wood natural.
We cut our own out of plywood, it was easy for us because we have all of the tools. I was in Home Depot recently and actually saw that they sell wall board panels that look like reclaimed wood.
Underlayment, 12.00 for a 4X8 sheet. You will most likely want it cut into 8 inch strips depending on your wall size.

This is what I did.
No I didn’t!
i thought about it, so glad I didn’t. I filled in the staple holes with wood putty, sanded then primered and painted.
Also, you will have some light sanding on the edges. I used nichels in between to keep the boards even as I stapled them to the wall.
Lowe’s and Home Depot well shiplap, from light to dark colors!
