Is it OK to paint latex over oil base paint? Any special preparation?

    Yes, unless if your original color(the oil based paint)is darker than your new(latex paint), because then the old paint would show through. If that is the case you would need to prime. If not, just paint right over. Good luck!

    Oil and water never mix! You'll need to lightly sand first, making sure you get it nice and rough especially if it was coated with urethane. Then you will need to apply killz primer. I would thin the killz and apply a couple of coats. Then paint away! Have fun!

    In the case of paint; water and oil do mix, if the oil is under the latex! So yes, safely paint away. If you are after a "distressed" look for a piece paint latex first then oil.

    I have flipped homes and done rental properties and never had an issue painting latex over any other paint. If you have some rough areas, just lightly sand first for a smoother finish.
