Where to start - painting my bed white

That sounds like a great update. Begin by cleaning the bed frame then paint with a primer that adheres to the current finish. You may want to look at something like Kilz. Get a good paint and put on one coat then lightly sand followed by a final coat. You will want to decide if you want a flat type surface or a semi gloss. The flat or eggshell type will hide some imperfections while the semi gloss will make it easy to clean. Good luck!!

Mohogany is a bleeder, so you would have to first prime/seal it. There are many products to do that-your paint store person can help you pick best one--Kilz is my general go to product--and then you will have to do a couple of coats of the white once that is done. Use a paint made for moldings and such--there will be choices of glosses such as satin and semi-gloss, but do not use a wall paint.

It is very easy to paint wood. If it is very shiny sand lightly or use a primer, then choose your paint esp by the finish. Glossy is easiest to clean and shiniest and flat would have no shine but I would not recommend that. This is a painted bed we bought last May for our attic. I love that it almost matched a color I love and use a lot!

First, sand it. Then you can use a pale blue undercoat with a white chalk paint over it. You can lightly sand some of the white to give it the distressed look.

Just like most other things. Sand, prime and paint.

Mahogany stain is messy to remove, so be prepared. What you can do, is sand it lightly first, then seal it with water based Kilz. It will keep the stain from bleeding through. Then use a good quality white meant for wood.
