Have had this dresser as a child and my child used it as well. Very solid and to sentimental to toss it. Time for an update
and was looking for a piece to store craft bits and bobs.
This was what I started with. Removed the drawers and sanded the entire dresser including the 3 drawers I was going to keep.
Cut a piece of plywood to replace the back of the dresser and also made a shelf to fit above the drawers. Although I had already sanded the unit I applied a coat of fresh start (primer) as the paint was quite shiny and I wanted to ensure the paint would stick. The plywood was given two coats of primer.
The dresser was then painted with two coats of fusion mineral paint. (Chocolate).
A stencil was applied to the back and painted with white acrylic craft paint.
The interior side of the back was painted with fusion mineral paint (casement) and the same stencil as the back was used for the interior using brown acrylic craft paint. The handles were replaced and viola I have a new unit to store my craft supplies.
