I have done so for clients in the past where they are discolored especially from smoking. Sometimes I soak them in the tub with bleach. Otherwise I like to use Dollar Tree Awesome Orange in a hose attachment bottle, hang the blinds outside either over the garage or porch on a few nails, spray them, i run a car brush over them, hose them off again, turn them around and hit with the soapy solution, brush and rinse.

If you need to bleach them because they've yellowed. Transfer the slats or entire blind to your bath tub. Plug the drain and fill the tub with cold water until it covers the blind or slats. Add 2 or 3 cups of liquid bleach to the cold water as you fill the tub. Let the slats or blind soak in the bleach solution forabout 10 minutes.

what are the blinds made of?

  • All the above answers are good. While they are hanging..... If harsh chemicals wash off that shiny coating that keeps the dust from sticking to blinds try using a floor wax on them as an end procedure. I sprayed it on, then took a sponge paint brush & brushed the slats in one direction. Wiped excess liquid wax off the sponge paint brush (by squeezing) with a rag. Then continued on down several more rows of slats. Let dry.

I hang mine on fence along driveway and spray with bathroom foam cleaner, scrub a bit and hose off, turn and repeat the other side.

Be careful the bleach doesn't rot the cords.

Depending on your investment in the mini blinds, I would say just replace if they are badly discolored. Much easier than all the cleaning and drying and rehanging. Mini blinds are fairly inexpensive.

Diluted bleach should be safe. They are very hard to clean, tho, you might be just as well off replacing.

We use a bath of bleach and water in the tub. Remove the blinds and soak in the tub. Scrub after soaking for about an hour. Don't add too much bleach! It will yellow the blinds. A little bit goes a long way. Make sure to rinse thoroughly.

Yes. Soak them in the tub and you only need a little.

Pop the blinds into the tub with cold water and three cups of liquid bleach. Let the blinds soak for no more than 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and dry off.
