My son built me a new gate for my side yard and I would like to stain the individual slats in different colors. I want it to still show the wood grain but give my new gate some pizazz

Before staining pressure treated wood, you have to let it dry out. Although it may seem "dry" to the touch inside isn't. I'd give it a good full two weeks in the sun before staining so it actually holds the stain. Then feel free to use any stain, any color. Would love to see this beauty after you finish it. Hope this helps.

Use a semi transparent stain. will soak into the wood and protect it but still show the grain. Once it's dry you can further protect it and the finish with Thompson's water seal or similar. It also will absorb into the grain.
