I've heard of sleeping mats being crocheted for the homeless, how ever ..in my area at least the bags are manufactured differently than before, a corn starch product has been added to the plastic mix. we were told its to help the plastic decompose. i'm not sure it decomposes, but it shreds when you don't want it to.

You can use them as throw pillow stuffing, if nothing else, until you figure out another more creative project.
I'm starting to make a door mat with them. I am braiding the bags like for a braided rug.
I have seen crocheted rugs made out of plastic grocery bags. You have to cut them in strips then connect the strips together. I once had the directions but maybe you can Google it.
