Any long-time reader of my blog knows I am a big fan of the Dollar Tree. I have worked with them professionally on a number of projects. Today I’m going to be using some Dollar Tree flowers to make this super cute canvas art work.

While I picked this canvas up from another discount store, the word on the street (hehe) is that Dollar Tree now carries canvases for artwork. Of course this will vary by geographic location, but even if your local Dollar Tree doesn’t carry it, you could usually find one at Walmart for just a few bucks.

I love the 3-dimensional effect of this floral canvas artwork. It is just so whimsical and playful and fun. As of now, it’s sitting on one of my daughter’s bedroom shelves. It might wind up in the play room eventually.

I am debating creating another one with more neutral-toned flowers and a more elegant vase design for the living room or dining room. I just love the unexpected look of the flowers popping out of the canvas! So fun!
Let’s get right to the tutorial, shall we? Here’s what you’ll need for this project:

*canvas board
*pencil
*marker
*utility knife
*hot glue & glue gun
*faux flowers

Start by drawing the outline of a vase on the canvas. Use the pencil at first to make a rough sketch. Erase and re-draw until you are happy with the outline. Then use the marker to go over your pencil marks. Use the marker to also create horizontal stripes across the vase.
Grab the utility knife to cut a slit across the top edge of the vase.
I also added some doodles into the white space on the vase between the stripes. Simply insert the flowers through the slit in the canvas.
I love the way this turned out. For more details & tips on how to get the flowers to stay put, visit the blog. For more craft inspiration, see how I made this farmhouse sign and this modern floral wreath.
