What is the best paint to use on a brick fireplace?

I want to wash with paint but I"m not sure if it matters if the paint is flat, gloss, semi-gloss. Will that make a difference since I will put it on and then wipe much of it off?

The paint finish is pretty much dictated by how and if you’ll need to clean it. Mine is dirty at the end of winter.
If you really just want to give flat colour wash of colour, you could use emulsion paint watered down. Any paint you put on bare bricks will get sucked right in and would be difficult to get out if at all. Better to go carefully with a weak paint that you could then go over again until happy.......Good luck!
