How to put a classic porch swing on my deck?

If you don't have a ceiling or roof joist to hang it from, your probably better off with a standing slider swing.

Try going to Hayneedle. They have lots of free standing swings. You can get some ideas if you try and do it yourself.

There are stands that can be made for a porch swing.... we did a Google search for "freestanding porch swing" Pinterest.com has some too.... free plans and directions are available... we just printed them off.

Hello! Why not purchase an outdoor glider. There are many options to choose from and the coastal type in white would really look outdoorsy and great! Another option would be a freestanding swing. Both Coral Coast and Hayneedle sell them — and some of them are on sale at this time of year. That way there is no need to extend your deck. Good luck!

You would need posts. A simple A frame on each end with a post across the top. Put heavy hooks at each end to attach chains for swing. Think kids swing set style.

You could also make an A-frame swing.

A frame would work like Deanna said. Good part about those too is you can move them if needed
