  • Depends on how it is attached, do you have a photo?

This is often times more difficult to remove than to install. Did you install it or was it already there? Many floating shelves are secured to the wall with a bracket which has rods sticking forward which go inside the shelf to hold it up. To stop it sliding off a small screw is inserted from the top (sometimes the bottom) of the shelf down through the rod - so look around carefully on top (or bottom) of the shelf for one or two screws - when you remove them the shelf just slides forward off the rods by pulling away from the wall. Let us know if this works! :) Good luck.....

Thank you so much Janice! I pride myself on my handy skills and problem solving abilities. I didn’t figure this one out w/o your help even though I saw the little round white stickers on the top!!!

As a lazy person, I might be tempted to use my SawzAll. Taping some cardboard or a plastic placemat to the wall to avoid scratching it.

Just cut along the back of the shelf vertically.

If its on a French Cleat, lift the shelf up. If its on the 3-prong metal plate, there is sometimes a tiny screw underneath holding it in place, take it out, and then slide the shelf towards you to pull it off the hardware.

This is another question. Short decorative wooden shelf attached to wall on wooden brackets. Looks like the brackets are screwed onto the wall with screw heads covered by wooden plugs, I can't access the screws. How do I remove the plug? Thx
