I bought 40 12" x 12" stepping stones for my yard beside the patio. I lined them up with the patio slab along the side farther away from the back door. The extra 4' x10' allowed me to put my trash can, my grill and some flower pots off the actual patio slab. I leveled the dirt about 1-2 inches below the patio slab, then used play sand to level it out and got the stepping stones to the height of the patio. Stepping stones are great because they are not set in concrete and you can move them if you want to.
I think pavers are fun to work with. So many ways to purpose them!
