If you want your onions to grow bigger you need to thin them to give room for the onions to grow larger. Hope this answers your question.

green onions, plant set deep 2 to 3 inchs, for big onions, only cover HALF the set with dirt, leave half out of the ground. Been doing it for years.

You may be planting the onions which only give you green onions or multiply. If you want large onions you need to buy the correct bulbs for "Spanish" onions or something similar.
We Had A Lot Of Green Onions One Year. Near Summers End My Husband Stepped The Tops Down And A While Later, I Had Large Onions That I Chopped And Froze. They Were Great That Winter. Sorry My Tablet Is Doing Its Own Thing With The Alphabet.
