How do you repair roman shades?

The strings in the back from the "O" rings are torn and the cord are broken cannot pull them up or down? Also, how can I convert them to automatic/battery powered from manual?

The videos on YouTube are awesome. I recently fixed my roman shades too... something I’d never done before. It’s much easier than I thought it would be. You’ve got this!
Check with the fabric counter at Wal-Mart. I found complete instructions free there. They even had the dowels, grommets, and cords.
