What can I put around my bathroom mirror that is made into the wall?

I need suggestions as to what I can put around my bathroom mirror which is built into the wall? I live on a budget and can't afford to take it out and replace with a new wall. The tiles on the wall also come out further than the wall itself and I can't think of anything! Please help!
This shows the side where the tile comes out further than the wall..
I had thought about some type of frame to go around it but with the tiles out further I can't figure out how that would work..
This is the inside

Maybe you can frame it with some peel ans stick tiles. Even just framing it until the wall tile could cover up the jutting side

how about painting the part that juts out with the wall color. It might just disappear.

Use some artificial flowers or Ivy. Dip the whole flower (minus the stem) into water based paint color of your choice (like an off white or cream) and let dry. You might want to spray the flowers with a coat or two of clear matte spray now. Glue gun the flowers all around the mirror & wall ( remember the stems have been removed!). You can then add a bit of accent color to the flowers with a dry brush technique. The softer the accent color the better so they look like they just have a blush of color on them. If you choose to do Ivy, you might want to use a flat SPRAY paint as they would still be on the original vine and a dot of glue here and there would hold it to the wall! Good Luck

I have made the wooden frames and attached them with strips of velcro.. you could make a frame that is larger than the mirror and then attach the velcro to the very edge of the mirror...and then it would still be able to open it..

You could make it a feature of the room! ...apply a (fun) wallpaper to the objectionable area... and maybe even make a couple of accent pieces... like wallpapering a matching toothbrush holder, etc. Cheap! Fast!

Forget about the mirror. Trying to build it up would be a big job. Instead, concentrate on the wall.

    1. paint the sides of the mirror with silver paint,
    2. then get Dollar Store mirror squares and glue them on the wall.
    3. To cut down on the cost, space out the mirrors with white plastic trim. Plastic trim (sold at Lowes/ Home Depot) is easy to cut with a box cutter. Use what's called screen moulding which is flat and about 1 inch wide.
    4. The moulding is white so you can leave it that color or paint. Use a paint that will also adhere to metal and paint the existing silver metal frame of the mirror.
    5. You can put all this up with construction glue, a level and a box cutter.

I would but some 2x4’s or thinner, cut to size use some construction adhesiv and make a frame...and then add some light crown molding and paint! It would look like a picture frame :)

How would I get it flush with the wall and mirror by the tiles coming out further than the tiles?

You can look for large pic frames of different thicknesses at a thrift store. Take the frame apart and glue the corners to corners of the mirror. Use thinner frames on top and thicker frames on bottom. Paint the frames in different mediums and make the frames the focus and not your mirror.

Frame the upper portion to look like this, then paint it to match the tiles. https://www.bhg.com/bathroom/storage/medicine-cabinet-upgrade/

Crown molding to frame it. They have Styrofoam crown molding that looks the same, but is much less expensive. Paint it before putting it around the mirror.

If you dont use the medication cabinet, you can remove it ; open the mirror door and look on the sides of the cabinet ...there should be screws Holding it in place. Remove those and slide the cabinet out. Remove the mirrored door off the hinges and frame out the mirror using (mitred corners) trim moulding, you can get a number of different silhouettes at the hardware stores, just larger than the mirror. You could also find an old picture frame at a thrift store; literally hundreds of them! Attach to just the rim of the mirror by using construction adhesive Or the picture frames clips. If glueing, let it cure overnight on a flat surface. Using picture wire and hanger, rehang your newly framed mirror to cover the hole left from removing the in-wall cabinet. We did this at my daughters house...and she loves the now wall mounted “big” mirror. We had to hang it slightly higher to fit the tile ledge, but no harm no foul! 💕 it looks gorgeous

Depending upon your decor, you can get very cheap paint stir sticks (often for free at home improvement stores) and make your own frame. Molding itself can be cheap (or expensive). I'd also suggest taking measurements and checking resale shops frequently for old paintings. I've seen them for under a buck and you can get a huge pre-made frame. Adhere with duct tape or velcro and you're good to go!

Depending on the decor-- Get a small barn door (or make one) for a cabinet. It will hang far enough from the wall (or you can put a piece of wood up for spacing)

Fake everyone out... Put some wood spacers on the wall along the side and

make some shutters out of pallet wood. Sand, stain, paint or cover depending on your decor....shutters that open to the side....even put more mirrors on the inside of the shutters for more mirror.

Or---my dad took one just like it out and cut out more sheet rock--boxed around a plumbing pipe, and boxed in enough room for a sliding mirror, about 3 inches deep, place clip racks for shelving, then put up molding around the edges. Freed up the counter and gave plenty of room for Toothpaste and such.

Putting a frame around the box is the least intrusive idea. You could even frame it up and around/underneath the light fixture to include it into an all-in-one piece. you would have to use spacer blocks above the tile to even the distance from the wall. Stain/paint the spacers to match the frame color. Next simplest is to remove the entire box and mirror and replace with a larger mirror mounted on a french cleat that would allow the mirror to hang straight down over the tile. You should frame the hole and cover it with a piece of drywall, but if the mirror is a good bit larger than the hole, you won't see it. This is a more expensive as the mirror would be a major expense even if a cheap pre-framed model from a big box store.

I have caninets si,ilar to uours in both of my bathrooms. Ours have screws on the insides of the caninet so I removed the cabinet cleaned sanded and spray painted the inside and the rim around the mirrior. Painted wall while the cabinet was out, (its easier that way) reinstalled the cabinet and it turned out really nice.

Shells! Cheap and easy to get a high end look. Bags can be bought at World Market or on line.

Is the mirror right above your sink? If it's not in weird place, you could take the mirror door off and either paint it or use some wood or bamboo-like textured wallpaper and make it look like a shelf. Put some decorative bathroom stuff in it, like like towels rolled up, an insence diffuser, a little faux green bamboo shoot or some other faux plant, q-tips and cotton in a jar, etc. Then hang a different mirror somewhere else. Or hang the mirror you took off and put a wood border frame around that. Both pretty simple and very inexpensive, especially if you get your knickknacks at a thrift store or dollar store. The wood trim and textured paper would be the most expensive but still very inexpensive.

Take it out! Fix the hole and paint the whole wall a different color or lighter or darker. Add shelves and put sea shells or towels. What ever you like.

I fully agree with krullebol. I would build small shelving units on either side. Just the same depth as the mirror to use for small items. (In my house, it would be built it out of paint stirring sticks to fit and show off perfume bottles. I have tons of perfume I get at the dollar store and use as air fresheners.)

First, measure the medicine cabinet! It may be that it is a standard size, meaning you can pull it out and insert an updated mirror/cabinet quite easily.

I would get some very thin veneer or even plywood. Have the store rip it to the right length(s) for the sides/top of the cabinet as well as the width. Using very thin wood will allow you to bend it to the shape of the cabinet.

Then, you can simply glue the strips to the sides that show using E6000 glue or something similar (moisture proof glue). You can stain the wood either a pretty color or wood color as you please. This will make the cabinet appear as though you planned it!

Using this concept, you can also easily and inexpensively continue with the wood strips to make "shiplap" walls above your tiles. You can also paint over the silver framing of the mirror in an accent color to update the look.

I actually think this would totally update your bathroom very affordably and help you fall in love with it all over again. Good luck!

Go to a glass store and have them cut some glass to make a frame. Or get a wood frame. You can buy the pieces at Micheal's and put them together. hope this gives you some ideas. Good Luck!
