Removing the stucco on a house.

We plan to remove the stucco on our home and replace it with ranch wall. Does the surface need something added to it before attaching the ranch wall? Also could the broken up stucco be used as a weed barrier in the flower beds around the house?

Big Job. Wouldn't use it as a mulch. It's cement based and chemicals can leach into the soil.

Thanks! Yes, we know it is going to be a big job. We had to remove some stucco from the back of the house to replace a broken window a few years ago. Thanks for the info about chemicals in the stucco. Was wondering about that. We will dispose of it safely then.

Depending on what is underneath the stucco you may have to add something like "Tyvex" and 1X3 or 1X4 vertical boards to give you something to nail to. Watch for the thickness of your window and door frames and be sure to calculate what will happen to your frames when adding wood materials. Check at your local lumber yard for more advice before starting.
