I have had some thrift store wooden cacti and a coyote that I wanted to put in my front room, but first they needed some 3 dimensional texture and paint.
I neglected to get a photo of them before the first coat of paint. Here they are with their first coat.
After the second coat of paint dried, I applied this Texture Paste we received as a gift from Hometalk for posting. It is acid-free and non-toxic. You can find it at rangerink.com. This would be the application for the prickly part of this cactus.
I used one of my plastic clay tools that came in some clay I ordered. It is a plastic version of the wooden set I own.
This is my first try at applying the texture paste, so I was not sure what all I needed. After a few trials I decided to use the rounded ended one.
It went on fairly easy as long as I kept dipping the tool into the texture paste to keep it soft. It dries very quickly. By the time I finished the last of the prickly thorns on the cactus, the first ones were dry and hard. They are not so hard as to hurt children or pets. They are more like hard rubber when dry.
I used acrylic paint and water to give the coyote an abstract 3 dimensional look. I might dye the texture paste dark to put some 3D on his tail and ears.
They both look so much better sitting by the fireplace. Our dogs have bumped them chasing the ball in the photo, but the prickly cactus did not hurt the dogs in any way. If you like western scenery in your home, I recommend using the texture paste by Ranger. It can be died any color you need.

Yes, the paste is excellent for making 3 dimensional shapes. I am sure you can think of many more uses. It is EASY to use! Thank you for viewing and I am happy a fellow westerner likes my project.
