I would like some patio garden ideas for my Alberta climate

We are moving in June from a home with a garden to a retirement complex which has a 2 tear deck so we are down sizing quite a bit. I would like some ideas for growing flowers and some vegetables in containers

Depending on the deck size, maybe consider a vertical planter? Also, they have nice planters that hang on deck rails.
Growing vegetables, whether in containers, or in a conventional yard garden, will be the same in your zone. Keeping in mind that Edmonton is latitude 53, the growing season will not be that long, even if the deck area gets full daylight sun in the summertime.
Where in Alberta are you? That will make a difference as the elevation changes a great deal around the province.
