#Salvaged Filing Cabinet Update W/ Plastic Fluorescent Light Diffusers

I found this beat up old filing cabinet on the side of the road with word "FREE" spelled out on it in duct tape. I took it home and decided to breathe new life into it. It was JUNK.
I wanted to go WAY OUTSIDE my comfort zone and take on a high-risk project since I didn't have anything to lose.
Inspired by Pantone's color of the year (Radiant Orchid) I settled on purple (who has a purple filing cabinet?) . I wanted to add some texture and when I saw plastic light diffusers (the panels that are placed in drop ceilings or box fixtures to cover the fluorescent bulbs and defract the light) I thought I would give them a try. (Again.. what did I have to lose?)
I spray painted them as well, and the result was a 'snakeskin like' appearance. SO COOL!!
Gold spray paint on the hardware and front surface of the cabinet, (I'm usually not a fan of gold spay paint, but I had a free can from a neighbor, and again.. GO FOR IT.. I had nothing to lose.)
Pretty soon the transformation was complete and I was IN LOVE. With great risk comes great reward. So fun and funky and it cost me next to nothing.
I ended up spending $7 (2 cans of purple spray paint) The cabinet, gold spray paint and diffusers were all free.. since the hardware store let me have the broken ones they couldn't sell.
So.. if your are worried about stepping outside the box with a salvaged piece, I say go for it. Since you really don't have that much to lose.

Spray paint, and a prismatic plastic sheet is all it took to make this free road-side filing cabinet into beautiful textured storage.
The before.. duh-duh-duhhhhh.....
I cut down the plastic light diffusers to the same size as the drawers

Amazingly clever! Never would I have thought of using plastic light deffusers. The effect is brilliant! I have 2 questions - how did you cut the plastic and smooth out the cut edge, and what side of the plastic did you paint - the flush side or the bumpy side? Thanks for sharing.
