I have a lot of hawks to. Some so brave this year they perch right on the bush wit the feeders...waiting for that little chicadee.. Freaks me out.
I put an owl where the hawks seem to wait...and so far..so good ! I know they are hungry too...and I sympathize...but I don't want them eating my little friends either .
Try decoy owls and snakes. Sometimes you might need to stop feeding for a few days or change up your feeding pattern. Try feeding in morning or afternoon only and take the feeders in when not in use.

Be aware that hawks and owls are federally protected. You may not kill them. The above site will tell you what you can do though. And remember if you have any mice, they are as good as cats to keep them away.
A bigger lawn umbrella higher than the feeder and covered with chicken wire rather than fabric will deter them and protect the smaller birds.
All of gods creatures gotta eat. Unless you put up a canopy of netting hung up high, prey birds will be prey. The turtle dove being one of the slowest and frequent victim
I'd try some fake lifelike owls. Inflatable ones are available, fairly cheap.
I had a pair of hawks living in my back yard one year. I didn't notice them eating the birds, but when the acorns came in I had a bumper crop. Took me a while to realize it was because there were no squirrels to eat them. The hawks didn't come back the next year, so we were back to normal.
Aren't owls used to deter birds? My next door neighbor has owls and it not deterring anything. I think they are for deterring pigeons.
