Any experience using painting tools?

Hi Dee, I have used a painting tool like the one you described. But it must not be like the one you are interested in. I say this because it costs less than $10. It's been a while since I used this tool but I do remember that it was a square piece of plastic. It had tiny wheels on one side and a thin sponge on the other side. You load it with paint and run it along the ceiling line. It allowed me to paint a straight line and eliminated the need for taping. Worked pretty good. I'm pretty sure I purchased it at Home Depot. I do not know the item you are describing, but most paint centers have edgers available. The one I am thinking of for you is a rectangle (sort of) shape pad placed on the edger, which has rollers on the side that would go against the ceiling. To place the line down from the ceiling you could run a chalk line and side it with painter's tape.

Its just as easy to run a course of painters tape, and cut in with a brush ..... I haven't seen anything so miraculous to warrant $140..... and I do specialty painting. Tip: lots of times the ceiling edge looks wavy cause of wall and ceiling textures meeting. I run a bead of caulk and smooth it into the ceiling/wall joint, then when you cut in with your angle brush it will look nice and smooth.

I have learned so much and shared so much on Hometalk. I’m still afraid iof electricity and plumbing, but I have accomplished so much because of Hometalk.

And I don’t know about the paint guide, but $140 seems a lot for something to replace painter’s tape. ☺️

I agree with Jewell that $140 seems a very high price even for a tool 'promising' to enable you to paint straight lines when painting the line where the walls and the ceiling join. Yes, this job is time consuming, and requires patience, even for someone without the stiffness of RA in their hands.

The difficulty is caused by the fact that seldom is the crease where the two pieces of wallboard butt up against each other, perfectly straight or level.

Save your money, use painters tape instead, or easier yet, paint the ceiling and the walls the same colour.

Several thongs come to mingmd. Practice on cardboard with the correct brush. Draw your lines and keep at it. If will be a pro quickly. Or plan to always leave a 1/8" distance between the wall/ceiling/crown.
