The Best Way to Cut a Glass Bottle

You can make all sorts of neat things with recycled bottles. I’ve seen candle holders, drinking glasses, shot glass and wind chimes just to name a few. Many tutorials call for supplies like acetone and lighters but if you don’t want to deal with flames and dangerous chemicals I recommend this easy way to cut a glass bottle. All you need is a simple glass cutting tool.
Decide where you would like to cut the bottle and position it on the glass cutting tool. Press firmly on the bottle and rotate it slowly with even pressure so that the blade scores the glass all the way around.
Once you have your score line, pour boiling water over the bottle as you rotate it slowly, then switch to cold water and pour it over the score line. The hot water will expand and the cold water will constrict. This will eventually cause the bottle to break. You may have to alternate between the two several times.
After the bottle is cut in half, use fine grit sandpaper to smooth down the edge so it isn't sharp.
Use your bottle for craft and DIY projects.
I used my bottles as a centerpiece on my dining room table. I placed tea lights on a place and put the bottles over top.
