I would ask the manufacturer..I never did have success even with their own cleaning polish.

Hi,before we moved to palm desert,I had vinyl planking put in our house. It was great.and I would do it over again. However like you I wanted shiny..shiny, to me says clean.however the planking was not shiny, but allure had its own polish, low gloss and a higher shine. Also protects the vinyl and makes it easier to clean. Great! A nice low gloss shine. Then in palm desert the house we bought had laminate flooring..everything streaked on it. It also was not resistant to water nor quiet like the vinyl planking. It was a bear to clean and not streak, even,as I said ,with its company’s formula. Now we are in Oregon, these old houses all had hardwood floors. We pulled up the carpet and had the floors refinished, and the finisher put down a low gloss finish. Assuring me I would be happier with low gloss since it would not show EVERYTHING like a high shine would. Well he was right, but I still like a high shine! 😽😼 oh well! i hope you can get an answer but I sure would go to any manufacturer source instead of trying all these cleaners homemade that may not work on laminate, but instead dull them beyond hope. Do let us know! 🌺

Laminate already has a finish put on it at the factory. All you can do is use a laminate floor cleaner. Bona and Rejuvinate have a cleaner for laminate floors. Anything else can affect the finish.

Thank you William, I am going to be trying all the suggestions until I find one that works.

  • My first question is Are the floors supposed to be shiny? I ask because some of my laminate is shiny (for which I use Bona floor cleaner) and some is duller - more rustic (for which I use vinegar and hot water).

I will be finding that out Elizabeth when I go through the list of ideas, lol!! Thank you for the info as I know nothing about it.

everything I tried leaves no shine.

When you bought the laminate, it probably had a low or medium gloss finish to help it look more like wood, ceramic, brick, stone or another natural surface. My husband keeps buying laminate cleaners, thinking he can make it shine if he keeps trying. I don’t mind. I probably have the cleanest laminate in town. ☺️

Great attempt by the hubby Jewell! I will end up using my vinegar and water if all else fails. At least I know they are clean, lol. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Linda,

Whatever you do, avoid waxes, polishes or sealers on your laminate. They may give you a temporary shine but they also build up over time and are really a bear to remove. In addition, many of them will not stick to laminate and you'll end up with a mess. Laminate has it's own finish and most of the time it's not shiny. If you think about it, natural wood floors don't shine without a sealer or polish which often must be repeated as it wears in high traffic areas. We have an engineered wood floor and it doesn't shine either but it does have a little be of a glow when it's clean. It's a more natural look. When we bought this flooring, my nephew was our "sales person". He told us to only use Bona cleaning products. Several years later, our floor still looks like new.

If the people before you used wax or polishes that might be the reason your floor looks dull. There is also a Bona product to help with that problem. When I was younger, I always wanted my kitchen floor to shine. I used products like Mop & Glo but eventually they would build up and the floor would have a yellow tinge. Removing that old product required ammonia and scraping it off. It was an all day project. I learned the hard way not to polish or wax floors and get used to just keeping it clean. Wishing you the best. -Linda
