You can spray the yellow area with Shout stain remover, let it penetrate the fabric and then work it in with a small toothbrush. Launder on the hottest setting the fabric can take.
Pretreat with Lestoil. Unfortunately usually the yellowing is perspiration stains, pretty much impossible to remove. May be time to replace the shirt.

Wet the stain. Rub thoroughly with a bar of Fels Naphtha. Launder as usual
Bleach pen and soak in oxyclean for whites
If it is from body oils try Dawn dish soap and soak it for a while I have saved my husband's white shirts this way.
